Youth-led World Food Forum Start-Global Issue

Flowing virtually from Rome, the five-day event aims to transform food and agriculture and help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially the SDG2 “No Hunger”.

Pope Francis attended the inaugural session with young farmers, singers, inventors.

“Look into the eyes of young people who want change. And listen, ”Pontiff said. “Listen to their concerns and be inspired by their vision, because our present will determine their future.”

Create a good food future

President of Costa Rica, Carlos Alvarado Quisada; Queen Letizia of Spain, a special goodwill ambassador for FAO nutrition; And Abdullah Shahid, President of the UN General Assembly, also addressed the forum.

FAO Director-General Kyu Dongu said he and other leaders were present “to listen to the voices of young people and to empower the younger generation to be co-creators of their improved food future.”

Producer, singer, songwriter, entertainer and entrepreneur Ywai Young performed at the opening ceremony.

In the coming days, the forum will feature young leaders from the agricultural world and beyond, who will be joined by influential, celebrity, business and civil society leaders.

The program includes performances and exhibitions by Nigerian singer and songwriter Brimo, German musician Ki Catcher, vegan model and influential Natalie Prabha, chef and writer Carla Lolly Music, poet Mira Dasgupta and others.

Encourage innovation

The forum is using innovative ways to discover and measure the most promising ideas of young people.

The Transformative Research Challenge, for example, provides young researchers with mentors and helps translate their work into research papers, provide recommendations and provide policy advice.

Another example is the Startup Innovation Award, which connects entrepreneurs with investment, technology and policy community leaders. The awards will include lectures on topics such as MasterClass the Success Mindset, Food Systems and Nutrition Education, and Blockchain.

During the event, the winners of the International Innovation Award for Sustainable Food Systems, who recognize the excellence in digitization and innovation and innovation that empowers young people in particular in this system, will be announced.

Follow-up of the Food Systems Summit

This is the first major follow-up to the UN Food Management Conference in New York last week.

The world currently produces enough food to feed everyone in the world, but last year more than 810 million people were hungry. The number is increasing with the Kovid-1 pandemic epidemic. Rising threats such as pests, epidemics, conflicts and climate change are exacerbating the global food crisis.

The World Food Forum is empowered by the FAO Youth Committee. It was created as an independent network of partners responsible for building a global movement for the restoration of the agro-food system.

“Future young people, and they have the digital fluency to inspire new perspectives, future thinking and comprehensive and sustainable change. They also have the numbers to do things,” Qi Dongu said before the event.
