Captain Eoin Morgan praised teammate Venkatesh Iyer for his fearlessness and called him a “true finder” for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). This came after the team lost by five wickets against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 45th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 in Dubai.

Sent to bat first, KKR’s batting charge-ball, led by Venkatesh Iyer, showed the team 155 for 67 runs. He was later credited with bowling from PBKS in the last over of the match. He dismissed KL Rahul and would have taken the game deeper if he had not dropped Shah Rukh Khan in the next ball. Earlier, he pulled an improbable catch by KL Rahul at the boundary line.
“Yes, he (Venkatesh Iyer) is a player. He was a true find for us, the whole campaign was with us, and we saw him in practice. After all, his attitude is great for someone who plays as fearlessly with the bat. He takes a lot of responsibility with the ball.
‘Dre Rush [Andre Russell] The all-rounder position has left a huge gap for us but it is outstanding for someone to come and contribute, ”said Eoin Morgan at the post-match presentation.
After being on the bench in the first round of the tournament, Venkatesh Iyer made his IPL debut in the second round in the United Arab Emirates. In the five matches he has played, he has scored 193 runs at an average of 48.25, scoring 142 runs. In addition to his safe fielding, he has three wickets to his name.
Eoin Morgan cited poor fielding and drop catches as the main reasons for the rate. The England star struck out Mayank Agarwal in the first over when the batsman hit 40 off 27 balls.
“In the beginning we didn’t field so well, we dropped the catches, I at first and the other guys, it cost us. When the game got very tough towards the end, a few extra wickets would help us.
‘Equally, I thought we fought hard, batted really well and probably had an equal score. Not the winning score on that wicket, but I thought the bowlers did a good job. The Kings played well, and then we fought. “The catches cost us,” Eoin Morgan said of the defeat.
“In real time, I thought KL Rahul was out”: Eoin Morgan
Eoin Morgan thought KL Rahul was out in the final trial before the matter became a matter of controversy. Looking like Rahul Tripathi’s great clean catch, the PBKS captain was not left out by the third umpire after careful analysis.
Commenting on the incident and the team’s bad fate at bat, Eoin Morgan added:
“I thought it was over in real time. Obviously, when you slow down and analyze things, the third umpire thinks otherwise and makes his decision, it’s final, and we have to move on with it. But it would have been better to get that wicket.
‘It was difficult for everyone who went there initially to go; It was not an easy wicket to start. But after having strong 1-1-1 overs, we couldn’t capitalize on that platform. ”
KKR, currently in fourth place, is still in the playoffs. They tied for 10 points alongside PBKS and defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI).
“We played some great cricket in the second half and there are some positives from tonight. We have two more matches left, we will fight hard and hopefully get some good results and stay in the play-offs, ”Ian Morgan said of KKR’s qualifying expectations.
The Yin Morgan-led unit will play last Sunday’s last-placed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Dubai.
