At least two people were killed and two others were injured when a small plane crashed into multiple houses and vehiclesIn a suburb of Southern California on Monday, officials said.
Fire Chief John Garlow told USA Today that the crash happened in the town of Santi, about 20 miles northeast of San Diego.
A twin-engine Cessna 340 aircraft hit several homes and multiple vehicles, including oneUPS truckIt was “massively damaged,” Garlo said. He said three houses had suffered “major damage” and two had burned completely.
Deputy Fire Chief Justin Matushita told reporters that at least two people had died, and two others had been taken to hospital with burns. There could be more victims, he added.
“It’s a pretty brutal scene,” Matushita said.

It was not immediately clear if he was a UPS driverAmong the dead or injured, officials said.
Garlo said it was also unclear if anyone was inside the damaged home. He said the sheriff’s department is also checking inside the nearby house.
Jennifer Ward told USA Today she was sitting at home watching a movie when she felt the house shake.
“I thought a tree had fallen into my house, and then I ran outside and saw all the black smoke,” Ward said. The plane crashed one road away from him. Ward said he drives on the road “several times a day.”
The plane crashed between the ward’s home and nearby Santana High School. Santana’s students temporarily moved to a safe place and were later released.
“All the kids at school were really scared because they didn’t know what was going on, and the school was shaking too,” Ward said, whose 15-year-old son fell in Santana.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were investigating.
The American Red Cross has set up a temporary eviction center at YMCA near Southern California.

Garlo said Santi has seen other plane crashes in recent years. He said a pilot was killed in an accident in a commercial area in 2015. He said a pilot was also killed in another accident in a residential area 10 years ago.
