TORONTO (Reuters) – Two Canadians held by Beijing for more than 1,000 days returned home on Saturday, local media reported, where they were received by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Footage from the TV channel CTV shows Trudeau welcoming businessman Michael Spever and former diplomat Michael Covrig as they arrive in the western Canadian city of Calgary.
The prime minister’s office did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
As of late Friday, Trudeau told reporters that two Canadians had left Chinese airspace, and Huawei’s chief financial officer, Meng Wanzhou, ended his extradition hearing after flying out of Canada after reaching an agreement with U.S. prosecutors.
