Pierre Gasley advanced faster than the Red Bulls in a wet final practice for the Turkish GP, indicating a complex and exciting qualification as many drivers lost control of their vehicles.

Rain from early morning in Istanbul Park has boosted Saturday’s track action which already seems unexpected, with people in Lewis Hamilton form on Friday but fighting for 10-place grid penalty and championship rival Max Verstappen Pace.

In the third and final rehearsal, Gasley was the first driver to venture into the wet tire circuit and finished as the fastest man in the middle of the road with a 1: 30.447 at his Alfatouri.

Worstapen had previously shown more form from dry to wet, ending Gasley’s tenth season and putting him in third place with Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez.

The Dutchman, however, was one of the many drivers on the Sodden Istanbul Park Circuit, while George Russell also pulled out a red flag with a big moment.

Russell got a snap of an overstayer in turn 2 on his Williams and went to the crab, leaving his car on the beach with pebbles.

Track conditions have improved with the P3 – so much so that drivers were considering flashy tires towards the end – and no more rain is expected before then. Qualifying starts at 1pm, live on Sky Sports F1.

“It can start in the middle tire and then dry out,” said Karun Chandok of Sky F1. “Like Sochi, it’s going to be very exciting towards the end.”

Hamilton, who will start Sunday’s race 10 places less than his qualifying position as a result of his new Mercedes engine, dropped to 18th, completing just one flying lap in the middle tire before returning to the pit.

Ferraris, however, was again competitive with Carlos Sinez, who also has an engine penalty, and Charles Leclerc was fifth and sixth, ahead of Fernando Alonso and Kimi Rকikkেনnen.

Valtteri Bottas was the head of Mercedes in ninth place.
