Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says drug cartel is now firing on National Guard at ‘abandoned’ border

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has claimed that “aggressive” drug cartels have begun firing on National Guard troops stationed on the Mexican border.

Abbott, speaking to Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo on Sunday Morning Futures, explained that the situation had turned into a “firing war.”

“Something is happening that is getting worse and the cartels are becoming more aggressive,” he said.

“And the cartels on the Mexican side of the border, they started firing at the National Guard that came down to secure (it) at the Texas border,” Abbott added.

He said the situation has reached a point where “Texas and our National Guard must protect themselves and the state of Texas.”

And the Biden administration, through inaction, seems to be OK with drug cartel attacks.

Governor Greg Abbott accused President Joe Biden of “abandoning” the people of Texas.

Bartiromo mentioned one of the farms he interviewed claimed that “they have to carry guns wherever they go, including dumping garbage.”

Abbott replied, “Well listen, those farmers were spot on in their evaluation, and that’s why the Biden administration has completely abandoned those farmers.”

The Republican governor said, “The Biden administration has completely abandoned all the people living on the border, and they have abandoned the people of the state of Texas … The Biden administration is ignoring them and he is putting them in danger.”

Abandoned Border

In Mexico, government officials warned in March that President Biden’s border policy was encouraging illegal immigration and leading to an explosion of gang activity on the border.

A Reuters report quoted a Mexican official familiar with immigration development as saying, “Organized crime has begun to change its modus operandi since the day Biden took power and is now displaying levels of ‘unprecedented’ sophistication.”

“Gangs are diversifying their methods of smuggling and winning clients as they look at US initiatives that will ‘encourage migration,'” Reuters wrote.

The president ended the Biden administration’s highly successful “stay in Mexico” policy by taking part in the border crisis, creating an influx of immigrants who believed the move would mean “reopening” the border.

The policy, implemented by former President Donald Trump, requires asylum seekers on the southern border to stay in Mexico pending a court hearing in the United States.

Now, however, the Department of Homeland Security has announced that it will re-implement the program in mid-November following the Supreme Court’s decision to reinstate the policy.

Representative Michael McCall (R-TX) said President Biden simply withdrew policies that work to end the crisis on the border “because it had Trump’s name on it.”

“I think it was planned all the time,” McCall said. “Going back to the campaign, that’s when you began to understand the traffickers that the law was going to change.

“And that’s when they started taking these kids up the border. And it became a real problem, a self-fulfilling prophecy.

The drug cartels knew that border enforcers were going to relax under the shameless new president – now they are so encouraged that they are accused of firing on the National Guard.
