The Rory McIlroy team has been dropped from the European line-up for Saturday’s fourteenth, with John Rahm and Sergio Garcia sent back to lead Padraig Harrington’s side.

McIlroy has been present at every session for Team Europe since his debut in 2010 but dropped out of Harrington after losing two of his matches on the opening day, where Steve Stricker’s American team had a command-2 advantage.

The Northern Irishman lost in fourth to Ian Poulter and teamed up with Shane Lori in four balls, the first time McIlroy had lost twice in the Ryder Cup on the same day, both of his players not even included in Harrington Saturday morning.

“I’m very comfortable with the team I put in again,” Harrington said. “Wait and see in each match that they can create their own momentum and then bring it to the team.”

Rahm and Garcia reunited after winning the only full point in Europe on the first day, where Spanish pair Brooks Koepka and Daniel Berger face off at 0.05am local time (1.05pm).

The striker is stuck in the same four foursome pair that won three points in the first morning, with Dustin Johnson and Colin Marikawa facing Paul Casey and Tyrell Hatton and English pair Lee Westwood and Matt Fitzpatrick to play Gender Schaffle and Patrick Cantley.

Jordan Spieth, the only American player who failed to win a single point on Friday, reunited with Justin Thomas when the all-star pair faced European rookie Victor Howland and Bird Weisberger.

Tommy Fleetwood, who partnered Howland to claim a four-ball half-point, missed again for Team Europe, with Bryson Dichambu, Scotty Sheffler, Tony Finau and Harris sitting out for the English hosts.

“We had another group that we were thinking about getting out of, but this morning it went so well that I understood why things go awry and things change completely,” the striker said. “We’ve changed the order a bit, but we’ve kept the same pair.”
