Police are searching for a male suspect who vandalized a statue of George Floyd in New York

An art exhibition in Union Square in New York City was recently unveiled to the world. Three bronze statues were erected in honor of the lives of George Floyd, Brauna Taylor and John Lewis. Although the statues were initially admired, it seems that others were not here for touching reverence. According to a photo taken Sunday, George Floyd’s artwork was vandalized.

Shed Room spoke with an artist who works for Confront Art, the organization in charge of the exhibition. According to Denny, this is not the first time the statue has been vandalized. The sculpture in Brooklyn was distorted with black earlier this year.

This time the statue of George Floyd was covered in gray. The placement ceremony was held just three days before September 10. However, the placement is only temporary with an expiration date of October. Later, the exhibition will tour other cities in the United States, then it will be auctioned for coins. Which will benefit the charity involved with the deceased.

Earlier today, Danny told The Shed Room that there was “no idea” of confrontation art that distorted the newly created statue. However, according to ABC7NY, police are now looking for a male suspect. He reportedly threw the paint into George’s bust around 10 a.m. before fleeing on a skateboard.

“We will restore the statue when it was first distorted in Brooklyn a few months ago,” Danny told The Shed Room in a message.

The sculptures form a temporary exhibition called “See the Injustice”. Each statue weighs a thousand pounds. These were made using “200 thin slices of African mahogany”. Later, they were coated with bronze paint.

The latest report says the statue has already been restored to its original form. As widely reported, the exhibition was created by artist Chris Carnabuci. This serves as the first installation of Confront Art.
