A city in New Zealand seems to have put itself at risk for a conspiracy of revenge.
Christchurch City Council has announced it will stop paying its official wizard 16 16,000 (US 10 10,400) a year in December, according to New Zealand news site staff.
Ian Brackenbury Chanel (aka The Wizard) has been working as a city-appointed necromancer since 1998. Over the past few decades he has made a total of $ 368,000 (approximately $ 258,825 USD) in “magical works and other wizard-services as part of the promotional work for the city of Christchurch.
Lynn McClelland, the council’s assistant chief executive, told staff that the council had made a “tough decision” to dismiss their local table because the city’s “promotional landscape” was changing and would seek to fund proposals that would “reflect a growing number of our communities.”
The wizard, who should have openly used his powers to see this coming, said the city council had “no idea” and that the projects were “an image of bureaucrats getting drunk on the boulevard.”
The wizard – who has a New Zealand driving license called “The Wizard” – moved to the country in the 1970s and has been in Christchurch ever since, CNN reported.. He even earned himself a Trip Advisor rating (Four out of five stars).
He told CNN that he sees himself less as a gandolph and more as a goofball or showman who brings joy to the city.
“Every day the world is getting more serious, so fun is the most powerful thing in the world right now,” he said.
The wizard insisted on the staff that the pink slip from the city would not prevent him from being himself across Christchurch.
“It makes no difference,” he said. “I will continue. They have to kill me to stop me. ”
