WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. Marine Corps holds the record for the worst vaccination among military branches, with 10,000 active-duty personnel set to miss the Nov. 28 service deadline, the Washington Post reported Sunday.

At least 94% of Marines have already met or are on track to meet President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine, but it is too late for those 10,000 to begin and complete the vaccination process in time.

The Marines could not be reached for comment.

The Marine Corps, the least populous branch of the U.S. military, is overseen by the Navy Division, which also runs the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard. The Navy has the highest vaccination rate among the military; 99.7%.

At least 97% of active duty personnel between the U.S. Air Force and the Air Force’s supervising Air Force were vaccinated by the department’s Nov. 3 deadline.

About 95% or more Army personnel received at least one dose of the vaccine. The branch has the latest deadlines for the largest and most active duty personnel in the military; 15 December.

Biden announced policies in September requiring most federal employees, contractors and health workers to be vaccinated, and large private business workers to be vaccinated or tested because the virus spreads the easily infected delta form. Center for Disease Control and Prevention data show that COVID-19 has killed more than 770,000 people in the United States so far.

About 60% of Americans are thought to be fully vaccinated, yet after nearly two months of infection reduction, the United States has reported daily increases over the past two weeks, driven by Delta and people spending more time indoors because of the cold weather.

(This story was corrected in the last paragraph to say that 60% of Americans are fully vaccinated)
