(Reuters) – Conservative Firebrand and Texas Republican Gov. Allen West, who was caring for Covid-1 for at a hospital Sunday, said on Twitter (NYSE 🙂 that his experience with the illness had strengthened his opposition to the vaccine mandate.
West, 60, served as chairman of the Republican Party Texas for less than a year before resigning in June. He has opposed the vaccine order and has not been vaccinated against Covid-1, according to his Twitter page.
A former Florida congressman, he is now campaigning for the removal of Republican Gov. Greg Abbott in 2022.
“I can prove that, after this experience, I am more dedicated to fighting the vaccine mandate,” West said Sunday in a series of tweets he sent while receiving care at a hospital in Plano, Texas.
West said he was receiving monoclonal antibody treatment and his condition was improving, although there were still “covid-related pneumonia concerns.”
His wife Angela, who was hospitalized with the virus on Saturday, but who was vaccinated, has been released to go home.
