TOKYO (Reuters) – The Japanese government will take all necessary measures to support the economy, which has been hit by a coronavirus epidemic, new economy minister Daishiro Yamagawa said on Tuesday.
Yamagawa, who is one of the fresh new faces in the cabinet of new Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, told reporters at his first press conference that he was determined to pursue bold economic and monetary policy.
Calling for a discussion on the country’s economic growth strategy and reduction of income inequality, he said, “We will conduct economic and monetary policy in a flexible manner without hesitation.”

Also on Tuesday, new Prime Minister Hirokazu Matsuno said the government was looking at oil prices because the increase would hurt corporate profits and increase the burden on families.
