The Jan Election Commission on Wednesday issued subpenas to about a dozen Trump supporters who helped organize rallies before the violent attack on the Capitol, including longtime Trump ally Katrina Pearson.

The panel specifically asked Pearson about the report on the reported January date, when he met with then-President Donald Trump where he asked about a separate event featuring speakers such as Ali Alexander and Roger Stone. Pearson told Trump about the Jan. 5 rally, which was organized by a group called the Eighty Percent Coalition, whose leader Cindy Chafian also received one of the 11 subpenters.
The committee’s investigators are looking for connections between the rally’s organizers and Trump, who helped bill attendance by billing Jan in January as a “wild” protest against the 2020 election results. Many of the extremists attending the rally and subsequent capital violations have cited Trump’s language as a justification for their actions.
