How the iPhone redesigns the phone, Apple and everything else

True story. Once upon a time there was a mobile phone … a phone.

You used them to make phone calls. Maybe you would send some text, if you were advanced.

The iPhone has changed everything. And it has changed even more than the way we used phones: it has changed Apple, and it has changed culture, and it has overturned industries and created new ones.

And it all happened really, really fast: Steve Jobs launched the iPhone just 14 years ago. But it is almost impossible to imagine what life was like before.

So here we are starting our new season Land of giants, Our podcast series that sheds light on the biggest and most influential tech companies of our time. If you want to tell the story of Apple, then you start the most important work of Apple.

In our first episode, we talk to top Apple executives who were the shepherds of the iPhone project from the beginning, as well as unsuspecting Apple employees who actually figured out how to make the thing.

But the iPhone is not just a consumer electronics success. It’s a device that recreates the world and we want to explain how it happened. And, importantly, what that means is, now, in a world where iPhones – and competitors’ phones – have inspired it – it’s not just beautiful, but necessity.

It’s worth considering Apple, Facebook and other big technology giants wearing some kind of enhanced / virtual reality headwear that everyone would expect. Next IPhone. How do we want to see this story at this time?

Like other seasons in Land of the Giants – we’ve tackled Amazon, Netflix and Google before – we want to bring you inside Apple and into the thinking of the leaders who shaped it. And we also want to analyze the power that Apple has gathered because it has changed the world, and is fighting real-time battles with regulators and critics to rely on that power.

It’s a big story, and a fun, and a provocative one. Hope you enjoyed it. The first episode Land of the Giants: The Apple Revolution Out now. New episodes are dropped on Wednesday. Feel free to listen on your iPhone, or any other device you choose.
