College football has become a real frenzy in 2021. Who would have thought that Clemson would be immediately separated without Trevor Lawrence? Who would have thought that Spencer would make Ratler look so inconsistent? Who would have thought that the USC would collapse like them? Well, a lot of people probably predicted the future.
Although there is still a lot of normalcy across the college football landscape this year, e.g. Alabama and Georgia dominate With whom they communicate, and Cincinnati They continue to be underestimated because they are not playing in the Power 5 conference, as well as a few good changes in speed. Most notably, the Big Ten has returned year after year relying on Ohio State and occasionally Penn State to compete with other elite football conferences. Indeed, thus in the 2021 season, a good argument can be made that the Big Ten has been the most complete conference from top to bottom.
Think about it for a second. Arguably, the worst team at this year’s Big Ten conference was Wisconsin – a team that had enough talent. 15th place In the country before the start of the season. They Lost by six The current number four team to start the season, and they have the worst overall record at that conference. It’s a pretty decent basement-resident for any conference. The Big Ten have four unbeaten teams, plus Ohio State (currently at No. 7). Even the Almighty SEC has only three, and their best teams (overall record-based) outside of Alabama, Georgia and Kentucky are either Auburn (No. 18) or Arkansas (No. 13), who just got Georgia laid goose eggs last week.
As the second best conference in college football, the Big Ten has clearly surpassed the ACC. Let’s face it, the conference that Trevor Lawrence and Lamar Jackson did for them a few years ago. Now that they’re both gone and there’s no generational talent to fill the void, the conference has more or less faded behind the world of college football with Wake Forest, who has yet to beat another ranked team this season. First of all. Big Ten not only passed them, they jumped over them and kicked them in the face on the way down.
However, I would like to go one step further and say that the Big Ten has been the best conference of college football this year.
I know the SEC has the best team, but the Big Ten is a threat from top to bottom. Even the northwest had a fair fight against the state and the Duke of Michigan. Even more worrying is that teams like Ohio State seemingly lost, or at least inconsistently, the season started, even though they won great. The Buckeyes are currently losing 4-1 to the Maryland Terrapins, and yes, I know the Terps were crushed by Iowa last week, but hey, it’s another Big Ten team, so the point still stands.
In Week In, all eyes are on the match between Penn St. and Iowa, the 4th and ranked teams in the country, respectively. Personally, I believe Iowa has shown a lot more impressions than Penn St. and hockey has to go with the win. What’s really important for this game though is that it proves that both teams can compete with a high level of competition. Penn Cent’s 2020 season wasn’t a good one, and that’s why they’re ranked 19th in 2021, their lowest pre-season ranking since 201. However, their defeat to Auburn does not mean that they are seriously considering a playoff. Auburn seemed to be the best inconsistent, and since this is the best win for the Nitani Lions in 2021, everyone is still waiting for them to return to Earth. They don’t have to lose hockey, just prove that they can compete.
For Iowa, the Hawkeyes are not used to the amount of expectations they face now. Since 1: 0, Iowa has only been ranked No. 2 twice (2002 and 2015). Ranked. However, in those asons, hockey did not come into the season with high hopes. They were unranked and managed above their claws. In 2021, we all knew hockey would be good but we weren’t sure how much they could fly. They have dominated the opponents who have played this year, including Iowa State, who are in fifth place. I know it was just a ten point game, but that box score doesn’t indicate how strong Eva looks in that competition.
A tough game all the Big Ten could expect. In the best case, the game is off and both teams put on an offensive showcase showing the ability to push the ball towards the field against elite competition. Worst case scenario, both teams show modesty in terms of low-scoring and prove that neither team in the Big Ten can compete with Alabama or Georgia. I will fight against any team against SEC. Cards piled up against the Big Ten, but there has never been a better time than this to steal the summit title in college football.
