FBI agents and other law enforcement began searching for Petito in the Wyoming Forest this weekend.
Petito and his fiance, Brian Laundry, 23, were on a cross-country trip from New York to Oregon when Gabby, 22, went missing.
An eyewitness told law enforcement that they saw the white 2012 Ford Transit as the two were traveling near Spread Creek on Aug. 27.
The Petito family reports that Gabby went missing on September 11, just weeks after she last spoke to her mother.
In a bizarre twist, police body cam footage released from August 12 shows Gabby Petito crying for her fight with Laundry shortly before she disappeared.
Laundry is currently an interested person.
UPDATE: The body found was consistent with Gabby Petito’s description, but there is still no forensic confirmation of his identity.
The cause of death was not immediately clear, the FBI said Sunday afternoon.
