According to the Italian journalist, Barcelona have reached a new long-term deal with star midfielder Pedri. Fabrizio Romano.
Pedri is set to sign a five-year deal with a huge release clause of 1 1 billion.
Barcelona see Pedri as one of their key players, which is why the Catalan giants have issued a release clause that cannot be activated by virtually any club in world football.
Barcelona signed Pedri from La Liga team Las Palmas for an initial fee of La Million with various add-ons.
The 18-year-old midfielder is considered one of the best young talents in Spain. Despite his young age, Pedri played a big role in his first season for Barcelona, making 52 appearances in all competitions and scoring four goals along the way.
Pedri was named in Spain’s squad for Euro 2020, where they lost to champions Italy in the semifinals. After the European Championships, the 18-year-old midfielder was also part of Spain’s Olympic squad that won a silver medal in Tokyo.
Barcelona is building their team around talented youngsters
Barcelona are in the process of rebuilding after leaving the club in summer transfer windows like Antoine Griezmann and Lionel Messi due to their financial woes. Messi joined PSG on a free transfer, while Griezmann returned to Atletico Madrid on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy.
Still, the Catalan giants have some extremely talented youngsters around whom squads can be formed. Barcelona’s talented youngsters include Pedri, Ansu Fati, Gavi, Ronald Araujo and Nico Gonzalez.
But despite having some of the best young players in the world, Barcelona have fought on the field. The Catalan giants are currently ninth in La Liga, five points behind Real Madrid in the game at hand.
Their form has worsened in the Champions League, where they lost their first two games -0-0 to Bayern Munich and then Benfica.
Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has come under fire for their poor start to the new season. Part of the Barcelona fans believe that the former Everton and Southampton manager is not the ideal person to lead Barcelona and its young stars in the future.
Koeman hopes Barcelona’s fortunes will turn when they play their next two league matches against Valencia and Real Madrid.
