Jessica Corda led her team to a thrilling victory as Charlie Hull won the Aramco Team Series – the individual title in New York.

In the second play-off hole of the 1st Flood Floodlit, the cord match was to deny former women’s open champion Sophia Popov and claim the team’s prize for golf channel journalist Alexandra O’Loughlin with enough for Ladies European Tour star Caroline Lampert and Lina Buckvist.

The quarterback met for the final round of 12 under which Tim Popov met, finished the 54-hole event at 41, and had just one stroke in front of Tim Hull, who was tied for 20 for their final round.

The Corderers were trailing from the 13th until they took seven shots in a dramatic four-hole blast, when Haley Davis made a crucial birdie towards the end that secured Tim Popov a place in the playoffs.

Popov was unable to convert a great T-shot because he took Corda in the 17th, and the American paid him a second time to ask.

“It’s such an individual game and it’s great that you’re able to win as a team,” Corda said. “It was a great experience and we had a lot of fun, being able to pick a player and then we have great additions.

“Today we really came together, and it was one of our best days. The front nine were tough but the last six holes were great.”

Hull’s team moved away from the extra hole, but the Solheim Cup star was delighted to win the individual competition after shooting a great bogey-free 65 to finish a shot in front of the World 1 Nellie Corderer.

“I played well the first few days, but today I really turned it around,” Hull said. “It was a difficult situation there, so it’s probably one of the best rounds I’ve ever played.

“My last win came back in 2019, so it’s good to win and by the end of the season I hope to finish at a height.”
