As a Bears fan, I don’t really want to launch this website Halas is the turnSpeaking of Justin Fields, Matt Nagy is constantly tracking the latest confusing bit of post-modern performance art.
And yet, in just four weeks, it has taken so many turns and turns, each of them so confusing and hardly believable, that no one can look away. I’d rather shout through this 7-9 win campaign in peace and out of the spotlight, but the amount of everything the Bears do excludes it. So a coach is apparently coming down in a frenzy with every crazy week.
Before I go any further, it is important to establish a baseline. So let’s do this:
Now, this would usually be the part where I mentioned that Andy Dalton couldn’t throw a pissrope like this. Or no Bears quarterback in history (not entirely true, but no one has promised a pissrop for a decade or more). But you have all read. What is clear is that Fields brings a baseline and an understanding of Pisropos. So you would think that any discussion of going back to non-pissrop-capable is a non-starter. Pissropes are a possibility. They hope. They are the way.
But not here. Just today, Matt Nagy told the assembled media that If Andy Dalton is healthy, he will start Sunday in Vegas. And the way you try to piece it out or paint it, it’s the farce of a person who has lost the plot.
Moving on to the Lions game, and remembering that it was for the Lions, Nagy wanted to hide it from those who were starting in Cuba. Although we all knew Fields would start, Dalton was not healthy, the presence of a subfuse was important for Nagy. Although all NFL coaches like to play hide and seek and that can only be an attempt at cheating, this is not the end goal. It is merely a tool. But for Nagir, Subterfue is the destination. It is not a shroud to cover the idea, but the whole idea. And it was to deceive the lions. You will not deceive the lions. You have mercy on the lions. You have to be confident enough in what you do that you can do everything less than send your playbook to the Lions.
So all of this could happen, for riders to guess about Sunday’s starter, even John Gruden would waste time just laughing and “planning” for Andy Dalton instead of another drink of lair. But everyone is sure that you are playing chess at a higher level than everyone else, just because you think you are being mysterious and no one understands your talent, it is a sign of someone coming closer and closer to the bus. Run
Or maybe the Nagis actually think the Bears are going back to Dalton with their best available route, which is obviously stupid. As discussed earlier, Nagir has a vision of his crime that no one understands and he has never been able to actually demonstrate on the field. The coach could very well be under the illusion that Dalton could run the offense because he could see better than the field. Seeing things that don’t exist is not a feature of anyone’s control.
It’s more expansive, somehow. As he did last season, Nagy gave play-calling to attacking coordinator Bill Lazor yesterday, and just as he did last season (even against the formidable opposition, which was also admitted last season), there was solidarity. There was a plan. The dramas that came before, the weaknesses were attacked and resisted. Play-action came after the run was established. The fields turned a little. Used for diversification rather than any RPO basis. It looks professional if not spectacular.
Everyone goes home with a happy and relatively comfortable win, which doesn’t come often for the bear, even if it creates some injury anxiety. Everyone has to breathe, right? Basque for a minute? No, Matt Nagir you need to know he was involved, right?
We have all seen this person in different settings. The party he’s hanging out with isn’t telling you that he chose the music. Or someone at work who didn’t write the successful pitch said the bagels were bought for him sealed the deal. The guy at the bar you don’t know who won’t leave you alone, constantly telling you what a great place it is and how he first started coming here regularly. You ran away with this guy.
Obviously there’s nothing wrong with being a coach that doesn’t call for plays. There are many who do not, and it is better to be CEO. Even Fields commented How cool It made things. Worry about big pictures, pay attention to watch management, play here and there, and so on. There is no problem.
But when you feel like you’re losing your fist, you can’t let go of anything. The more you slip through your fingers, the more you become desperate to grasp what is around you. Impostor syndrome increases and probably begins to take over. Nagy may also be at a time where he is sure he will be found if he does not see that he is in charge of everything, and he may be the only person who does not know that he has already been revealed.
All the possibilities, all the noise in this latest batch of news. The pitches will start on Sunday, and he will continue to do so as long as he is healthy, because the thing that Nagy has been able to hold is the respect of his players. I don’t know how, but they never left him, and it’s no small matter. Voluntarily returning to Dalton will remove the last pillar for him.
But if you have lost track of reality, you may not realize how much you stand until you have broken it all.
