In a new ad, the Lincoln Project has created a giant wedge through Glenn Yankin’s plan to embrace Trump and keep him away from Virginia.
The ad is titled “Ungrateful:”
The ad speaks directly to Trump and says that Glenn Yankin thinks he is a loser and is embarrassed by it. The ad ends with Trump telling Yankin that “another Rhino is stabbing you in the back.”
Rick Wilson of the Lincoln Project said in a statement to Politicus USA: “In the early days and in parts of Virginia, Glenn Yankin was as big a fan of Donald Trump as he was, but now that the deal with the Virginians is closing, Yankin is urging the former president to stay away, a representative of this dynamic today’s Republican party: Court Trump Win the primary and then flee the MAGA world as quickly as possible. Our message to Trump through this ad is simple: You are being played.
The Virginia gubernatorial election is near, perhaps not as close as the tie, because the state has a history of underestimating democratic support in a bizarre disguise of voting, but is it close, so such an ad reminds Virginia voters who support Trump that Yankin does it both ways. Trying to be very clever.
In an election that could come down to one or two points, the Lincoln Project ad could make the difference between a Virginia-led Terry McAuliffe or a mini-Trump.
